The Ghent Marathon will become THE Belgian spring marathon and a new highlight on the international marathon calendar. The event's new organisers Golazo and Stefaan Engels are joining forces for the fourth edition of the Ghent Marathon on Sunday 29 March. You can sign up now for the marathon with an all-new course through the historic city centre of Ghent.

Last weekend the third edition of the Ghent Marathon welcomed 5,000 runners. The fourth edition is following in only five months time and is shaping up to be even better.

GHENT MARATHON ON THE INTERNATIONAL CALENDAR

"The end of March is the perfect spot on the marathon calendar," says Greg Broekmans of Golazo sports, which also organises the marathons of Antwerp, Rotterdam and Dusseldorf. "The Ghent marathon is well-liked in Ghent and its surroundings but as a historic city Ghent also has a lot of attractions for visitors. Marathon tourism is booming. From 2020, a year of celebration in Ghent because of Van Eyck 2020, we would like to attract many more marathon runners from abroad."

NEW COURSE THROUGH THE CITY CENTRE

The organisers not only picked a new date, but also laid out and all-new course. For the first time in the event's history, the course will run through the historic heart of the city. It's a first for Ghent, but also a unique experience for the participants in the context of the celebrations around Jan Van Eyck 2020! The all-new course of the marathon and half marathon, which will soon be revealed, is promising to be a real gem. The Topsporthal stays on board as the impressive finish location, where runners can count on the warm support of the many spectators.

"The Ghent marathon has grown into a mainstay on the running calendar, and rightly so," says Ghent sports councillor Sofie Bracke. "With a course which will go through the city centre for the first time, and passes by several highlights of the Van Eyck programme, the next edition is one to look forward to already." Sign up now!
